The work we do makes an impact enabling infrastructure for a cleaner energy future. With Riggs Distler as part of our team, we will have even more opportunities to support our customers with energy transition, especially with renewable energy generation. Today it was announced that Riggs Distler has been selected as the general contractor for New York’s Sunrise Wind offshore wind project, the state’s largest offshore wind supply chain contract to date.

This joint development partnership between Ørsted, a Denmark-based sustainable energy company, and our customer Eversource will provide the New York Power Grid 924 Megawatts of 100% renewable energy. That’s enough to power nearly 600,000 homes!

Riggs Distler will provide a broad range of onshore heavy civil, mechanical, and electrical services for the construction, assembly, installation, and inspection of the project’s advanced foundation components. Scope of work includes construction of large-scale and specialized components for the wind farm’s turbine foundations, including external concrete platforms, suspended internal platforms, and anode cages.

With an anticipated 277,000 work hours, Riggs Distler will deploy over 100 skilled tradespeople from local labor unions in New York to build the offshore wind components at the Port of Coeymans. Training for these positions will include apprenticeship and on-site training by the local unions with additional opportunities to support construction efforts.

Steve Zemaitatis Jr., President and CEO of Riggs Distler, is excited for the opportunity in this new industry. “We’re proud to be the general contractor for the Sunrise Wind farm and pleased to bring our local skilled union workforce to this groundbreaking project,” he said. “Riggs Distler’s leadership team was early to recognize the transformational potential of offshore wind in the United States. As such, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our company—our team members, current and future, and facilities—are ready to help realize the promise of this exciting new industry.”

Paul Daily, President and CEO of Centuri, is optimistic about where our part in this project may take us in the future. “Now with Riggs Distler as part of our family of companies, we look forward to investing in New York and its people for decades to come, and in doing so, contributing to the significant growth of the offshore wind industry in the United States,” he said.

The Sunrise Wind project is a great example of how Centuri companies are playing an essential role supporting a sustainable energy future with leading infrastructure services.
