Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Upgrading Project

Project Overview

WSN Construction partnered with Enbridge Gas Distribution and the City of Toronto to reduce the City’s carbon footprint with a low-carbon fuel solution. The joint-venture upgraded the equipment system at Dufferin Solid Waste Management Facility to allow the transformation of raw biogas produced by the processing of organic waste into renewable natural gas (RNG). A comprehensive biomethane system scrubs impurities from gas produced by waste, pressurizes it, and injects it into Enbridge pipelines for distribution. Once the RNG is in the natural gas grid, the City may use it to fuel its collection trucks.

Dufferin is a state-of-the-art facility that uses innovative pre-processing and anaerobic digestion technology to break down organic material. The upgrade to their system is one of the first of its kind in North America and exemplifies a significant investment in green infrastructure. The involvement of NPL Canada and WSN Construction not only represents the strong relationship that both contractors have with Enbridge and the City, but also their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
